Spring at the Cabin in Plain, WA
It’s spring in Plain, and I have to admit—our family is divided. I’m outnumbered by the winter lovers.
And I get it. Winter here at the cabin is magical. It really does feel like a snow globe—quiet, white, and still. But if I’m honest, I think part of why I love winter so much is because I know what’s coming next.
Spring.
The shift is subtle at first, and then suddenly it’s here—warm days, cool evenings, and that feeling of everything waking up again. It’s the season where the cabin really comes alive in a different way.
Evenings are for the sauna, followed by sitting outside under the patio lights, the potbelly stove glowing nearby. There’s still a chill in the air, but it’s softer now. Manageable. Welcome, even.
Days are for slowing down. Sitting out on the patio with a good book. Letting the sun warm your face. Meals stretch a little longer when you’re eating outside, surrounded by fresh mountain air and that early green returning to the landscape.
Spring is also when we roll up our sleeves a bit—checking in on the cabin, tackling those seasonal chores, and getting everything ready to welcome guests again. There’s something satisfying about preparing the space, knowing others will soon arrive to make their own memories here.
May and June are, without question, my favorite months. It’s the perfect window to explore Leavenworth before the summer crowds arrive. Trails are opening up, the river is moving, and everything feels just a little more relaxed.
If you’ve only experienced this area in winter, spring might surprise you. It’s quieter, slower, and in many ways, just as magical.
